Jack and I did one workout this week and 1 yoga routine. We are big babies and we know it! We didn’t even take workout pictures. I think we are pretending this week didn’t happen. *smile* Will be getting after it next week, for sure. We miss working out, but found all kinds of excuses not to this time around.

June 29, 2011 by Jodiann aka Bean

    Howdy All!

A quick note: I am taking some time off to focus on a website update.  Its seems the right time since the heat is driving me indoors more and more. Silly me kept thinking “time” would open up for me to consolidate my blogs into a single hub. Well that never materialized. Looking forward to Autumn I don’t see that happening then either, its a different kind of busy for us all.

That said, I will be back Friday with news of the pond, we are working putting the rocks around. Starting to look like something more than a hole in the ground and Kristine’s got a new kit to reveal and I will HAVE to gab about that…then I will be out until July 15th at least.

I may need more time, WordPress+ Jodiann+ Timeframe. May be too many variables! HOOT!

    See YOU Friday!

  5. Linen Bright Styles & Sheets+Freebie

June 24, 2011 by Jodiann aka Bean

WHOO! What a week! Summer is in full swing and I can’t remember all that we did this week because the dogs were acting so weird. Up at 2am every night.  Brain a pudding mix, now. Its so unlike them unless they have nature calling. Well nature WAS calling in a way.

Lookie what we found in the drying out pond bed…

    Raccoon!!

There were other tracks too, a turtle, but duck and raccoon tracks covered those. No good pictures. A lizard: a pretty big one as lizards go. We even found a tail swipe of our armadillo friend, but again it got covered up by other tracks before I got a picture.

Let me run through the other things I managed to get a picture of this week.

The ducks poking around in the last of the brackish water. Icky!

    This pretty white Hybiscus Bloom.

    My Old Belt.

    My New Belt.

    All My Thrift Store Finds.

Cherry Pie surprised a wasp. Half Beagle half Terrier! She is all better now.

Hank and I had a photo shoot. Hank looks great, I need photoshopping! *wink*I am surprised to see my 4 concentration bumps on my forehead. I  have never seen those before. I WAS really trying to get a good picture but Hank moved, then I moved, then we both moved. It was ugly there for a while.

Grapenuts. There are some in there. HOOT! Check by the spoon…

Okay! SO many stories to tell in detail and I sure would love to, but summer keeps one running doesn’t it. I never understood LAZY summer. I would like to because that would mean I knew I was in one. Maybe next month.

    Linen Brights Styles and Sheets!

I am quite happy with how these turned out. I am using them a bunch these days too. Lots of texture here and I am in love with the swirly fingerprinty areas. Included Red, White and Blue for all Patriotic US-ers and of course Texans, because I don’t want any sad faces come July 4th and I especially don’t want sad neighbors.

JODIANNsCUlinenbrights On Sale this weekend only for $3.00

    Styles for Photoshop.

Sheets for Paint Shop Pro, Gimp, Paint.net, Serif, etc.

Visible Repeat on Papers so if you use on papers add a texture plate to eliminate, if you don’t like it. Like I said, I am in love with the fingerprinty areas so I did not do this myself.

    Freebie Time!

Built with Linen Brights above. Like a summer house, clean and defined. Upper Case Letters and Numbers. No punctuation. Casual. Goofy Letter E is big like that in the alpha. Neato!

  6. I Jumpz U

June 22, 2011 by Jodiann aka Bean

Hey Folks! Hope you all are having a wonderful week. Busier than usual since the heat and hot winds are drying out the garden plants. Hauling hose take time and make me tired. Not really the hose thing, but the in and out of the house and living by a timer. Knowing I have to do it again tomorrow also make me tired.  Exhausting. I will do another month of this and then I will begin to fade like the plants.  Rained last night a bit. Sweeet! We might soon go back to only night watering Yippeee!

  7. Tiny Daisy Mums

June 17, 2011 by Jodiann aka Bean

Hey Good Morning!! * Happy Wave*

Just finished today’s workout and I am feeling all dreamy and content after my bowl of oats. I could go for a nap, but for now I would rather gab at you all instead. Sure I am sitting down and that feels really good, but YOU, you are the ones that pull the chair out for me each morning. Thanks for being here, Cuties!

    First off, Without Delay!

    Happy Birthday Daddy!

Dad and His Alaskan Halibut 2009. Go Dad!

I am going to do some math so watch out…it could get ugly! *smile*

1933 from 2011 is 78! My Sweet Powerhouse of a Dad is 78 today.

I have to tell you all a tiny story, we went camping with my dad and mom in 2003. It was great! The Arizona High Country: The Mogollon Rim (pronounced mug-ee-on) is absolutely the most beautiful place on earth to me. Its Cool and full of Ponderosa Pines above and on the rim and below the land sweeps and bobs in elevation hundreds of miles to the dessert valley where Phoenix rests. Lakes abound and that is where my dad taught me and my 5 siblings to camp, fish by lure and fly, pick wild raspberries, respect the land, and leave the world better because you were there. Big lessons gently taught to little kids in beautiful country stick to them no matter how big or far away they get. Love you Dad.

Steering back to the story…Jack, Dillon, Nathan and I went camping with Mom and Dad. My Dad was 70 then. He brought out an ax because we had some deadfall in the camp and it was just nice to chop it up so kids didn’t fall over it. That’s how my dad thinks. Make things better, think about kids, clean up the earth. So he hands the ax to my man Jack. “ Give that a wack, Jack” Well Jack did, with all his might he tried to split that wood. He tried again. My Jack didn’t give up for a few more wacks all the time my Dad just looked on not a look to his face or a word from his mouth. Just looking. Finally, out of breath and a bit confused Jack backed off the log saying,

    “I can’t do it!”

“Well…let me give it the Goodman try” ( I was a Goodman before I was a Cates, btw. )

“The trick is to go Through the wood, not TO the wood.”

We all look on in anticipation.

One 70 year old wack and the log fell into two halves.

Another 70 year old wack and one half fell into two quarters.

Another 70 year old wack and the other half fell into quarters.

And so it went until the long was split and stacked.

Jack and our two little boys…speachless.

“You didn’t know an old man could do that, did you Jack?” All the time punctuating his words with his jovial laugh.

Jack, in awe…”No SIR!” Laughing  “No SIR!”

That’s My Dad. He might best ya’ but he will never make you feel the fool for trying. And he is always teaching what he knows.

    Thanks Dad! Happy Birthday!

I grew these Tiny Daisy Mums in the garden for years. I guess they have an expiration date? Or the winter was unkind to them in sleep?

None came up this year. *head scratch*

In past years they were cute little thumb-size buttons of color. The bees waltzed in lazy circles around the centers last Autumn, sometimes falling to their sides, grasping and buzzing around and around like the Tea Cup ride at Disneyland. If I closed my eyes their buzzing sounded like happy children.

I was getting ready to delete an old file called “assorted flowers for extraction” I had gone through 5 or 6 subfolders with promising titles like “Snapdragon”, “Spider Mum, “Christmas Holly” and “Pressed White Daisy” all to find the pictures and scans were not top shelf or just plain old boring.

I am no longer young. That said, if I am going to trade valuable eye squint time to extract say, …a Spider Mum, its going to be the most gorgeous one around. One that I know I will personally use and feel excited about everytime. My thoughts were “ Trash the whole file, nothing in here with spunk!” So with my finger poised over the delete button my eye caught “Ruby Daisy Mums” Hmmm? I could not remember having or even scanning anything like that. So I had to look.

JODIANNsCUtinydaisymums-150k  Tiny Daisy Mums! WOW! Spunky!

I changed Ruby to Tiny because they are small, 200px-400px. Leaves twice that. Preview accurate on size of leaves to flowers. Small is good for scatters, frames, borders, and the like without too much sizing down on your end. Actual flowers were no more than a couple centimeters across.

  8. Ducks 10 Weeks

June 15, 2011 by Jodiann aka Bean

    Duck Update:

    That is “ Duck “  with a D, Kristine. D as in Dysfunctionally-tired.

This was some weeks ago, slow in editing the video ( loads and loads)

Duckies are doing well waiting for the pond liner to arrive. They spend time under the bushes and in the shade. They like to get sprayed with the hose. Vlad monkey-ed the dilly-wacker off the sprinkler head he messed with it so much. Now it just shoots straight into the air. Gotta find the dilly-wacker so we can stick it back on.  Not as nasty as it sounds.

They were just coming in at night, but last night when it got dark they did not come to the porch and QUACK to open sesame the door. I decided to go fetch them and they were having none of it.  They stubbornly stayed out on the pond all night. I was a wreck, its a full moon, coyotes singing all around. Could you all have picked a safer night to show your independence?

Just went out with the flashlight to count heads, all there. They hate the flashlight. Another reason they see me and run away! I am always pointing something at them. Camera, Video, Flashlight, Hose.  HOOT!

Just yesterday morning, when it was time to exercise they wanted out. Ducks potty at 4 am, who knew? I thought they never stopped! Anyway they wanted out, it was dark, dark and they went out the front door when the pond is out back. We keep filling it up for them without the liner. Well they were NOT walking around the house in the dark so Sid banged bill on the window next to the door until I came over and opened up. They waddled straight in the front door, through the house, out the back door, across the back landing, into the dark toward the pond and PLOP right in.   Of course, no one was awake except myself and Charlie Girl, who was treated to a duck walking by too close to her face. Lifting her head to witness and went back to snoozing.

I keep telling my family, “The BEST stuff happens around 3 am”, yet they insist on  keeping to their beds. Oh Well. Charlie saw.

Some Pictures of the pond with ducks in it.

Yes, those are duck butts pointing skyward while the rest of the duck seeks Atlantis. I took this to show the leak in the pond to my men,  and noticed the duck water ballet while thumbing through the camera roll. *tee**hee* Cute little duck butts!

Its Wednesday again, so a tiny update on the exercising. GREAT! I  LOVE the energy I get from it ( after my post workout nap) Today I wore goofy shorts, this is not a look for everyone, thank goodness it works so well on me! *giggle* NOT!

Still listing to the right. A week didn’t fix that! Outrageous! Yes, lock the knees for maximum beauty!

    Size:  US  8       UK 10      EU 40      AU  12     JA  11

  9. Sweets & Family

June 14, 2011 by Jodiann aka Bean

    Hey Honies!

Friday Morning, the boys and I made 3 pans of brownies, and 1 blueberry cake. We are feeding the freezer to get baked goods done in one heating of the house. Summer here and each night I stress out the AC during peak energy usage hours making dinner. So baking in the cool of the morning and doing bulk prep for multiple dinners at that time as well is helping keep our usage from getting out of hand. Especially since the sun in shrinking the garden plants and our well pump is running most of the day to keep the garden and trees alive. Pinching a little energy off cooking helps us focus our energy use. Trying not be selfish with energy.

This was our only brownie mishap.  Catificus Ingredi ( cat step)

    Tesla dis-respected these brownies.

When he is a poot like this, we call him Otto Von Tesla and speak to him only in a German accent, because we have a teensy bit of German in us and the accent implies we are being harsh with him and doing our job disciplining him, which we are not, as referenced by the footprint in the brownie above.

Spent the weekend with Jack’s Family. Roy ( Daddy Cates) and Fran ( Mommy Cates) came down from Tornado Torn Oklahoma. They live in Yukon ( where Garth Brooks was born) and just  got barely missed by a biggun’ a few weeks back.

We went to their hotel to visit them ( they are allergic to dogs and cats) and went swimming, got sunburned, and went out to eat a lot! I even managed to take a pie break. I had this piece for breakfast on Sunday. Blueberry. To the ever-loving shock of my in-laws. They know how I am, but I can still create surprise now and then. May look a bit like “Smoosh Pie” but it was Yummy!

    Jack and His Dad.

    jackroy_06102011 copy

Fran shared her recipe for Cherry Pie. ( Roy’s Favorite) also happens to be Jack’s Favorite too!

When I make it I will post the recipe.

Jack wants me to point out to the internet this is a very good picture of him. Noted.

    Happy Tuesday Friends!
