Bluebonnets

Their here!  As sure as the sun’s gonna rise, bluebonnets arrive on the roadsides in this part of Texas each spring. Thanks to Ladybird Johnson former first lady, who LOVED wildflowers…Texas preserves its roadside wildflowers ( by not mowing them down until they re-seed and other common sense measures) So a country drive stays country.  Nice.

Bluebonnets are really not that rare they are part of the Lupine Family and grow on mountain tops and down in valleys throughout most of the USA, they come in white, pink, purple, orange, yellow…you name it. The true blue color is a bit of a rarity outside of Texas.

Our neighbor Mikey T has a lovely field right across the street. It  grows blue-ee-er  as May approaches.  Some wild turkeys were wading through them this morning chortling something about being knee deep in flowers. The sun wasn’t up yet and I am sure the pictures would have  tanked had I tried to snap a few. So I hide behind my bamboo  not to frighten them off and just watched. A tom and 3 hens. I know turkeys are big, but man in the semi-dark, these looked Emu-sized…okay not that big! LOL! A nice way to start the day!

Here is a snap of some bluebonnets along the road from yesterday.
