Girlie Magnetism
As the only female in the house, I do get all the girlie attention, and that is great. Queen Bee is great! It won’t always be this way, the boys will each hold tryouts for the girl of their dreams and I will have to start sharing. I think that will be great too when the time comes. For now, the only thing sticky about being the only girl is when I want to watch a Chick Flick. Around here we call them Girlie Shows.
To be fair we used to watch everything together and mindful of this I would forgo the extremes of romance and all girl casts. Then I rented Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion. I was blinded by Alan Cummings so he carries some blame for my screw up. He is phenominal. Period. I never miss a movie he is in, no matter how bad they might be.
This movie SO sucked, it changed the way we watch movies. No, I am not talking Blue Ray, don’t get me started on that Kerfluffle! The negative experience of my boys and hubby being tortured by both Romy and Michelle sent shockwaves out that we are still feeling today. Before that, my movie choices were never questioned…Since then, when a movie comes into the house, the first question is,
“Is this a Girlie Show?”
If the answer is “Yup” I am suddenly alone watching with a pile of dogs and cats for company.
This was a banishment at first, but time passed and I began to enjoy watching a good girlie film alone. There was no eyerolling, verbal re-writes as to who needs to die, be shot, blow up…no imploring the writers to pull their heads out of something. It became bliss. So much so that I am now warning them off more for me than worrying about scarring them for life…even Jack! Still young enough to be scarred. * hoot!* The funny thing is…lately the harder I throw the men away and the faster they come back. I must be liking my alone time too much! LOL!
I warn them all individually…Girlie Show About to Commence! There will be no explosions! If you come up, bring Kleenex! …and climb the stairs and every dog ( eight) and every cat (six) is up there with me. We all get situated draping ourselves on the sofa, chairs, floor etc. Aaaand Play.
15 minutes later, I see a dude peaking over the railing.
“I am watching a girlie show be warned.” Down the stairs goes dude.
5 minutes in, Jack comes up for a snuggle,
“I am not here to watch, I am just cold and you’re so warm” Hmmm? Why is his face pointed at my screen?
I am now looking at half the screen with my head craned to the side while my hubby is all comfy stealing my heat. I am never one to say no to a good snuggle, but I am going to complain anyway…*guffaw* …my leg is falling asleep. I think about shifting, but the careful arrangement of animals and people might topple. Like with yoga practice, I try to relax into this discomfort. Be Your Breath. Relax into your pain, uh-right, that’s not hard! Pins and Needles, Needles and Pins. La-La_La-La!
20 minutes in, Dude is back.
“This is not so bad. I think I will watch a while” 5 minutes later as the heroine clutches a crumpled letter and collapses in a fit of wracking sobs, he backs out of the room and down the stairs in horror. He’ll be back.
10 minutes later, he is. And so it goes, clomp, clomp up and down the stairs. Intrigued and horrified in turn until finally the movie duct tapes them in place.
Of course, about this time my phone rings and I choose to drive off to help out a friend. The irony is not lost on me as I hit the stairs myself that I am leaving 2 of my 3 men covered in Dogs and Cats to watch the last half of MY girlie show! Isn’t life a HOOT!
I have a paperpack for you tomorrow. It started out with the idea of 5. *lopsided grin* and like making chili it grew! I am too close to them to chop the group down to a manageble size, today. After a day of not looking at them I might be able to cut back to 10 or so of the best ones and post.
Here is a peek.

Gratitude List:
For Yesterday, big fluffy clouds and a light breeze. The perfect day to be out in the Garden. It was bliss! Dirt under my fingernails, damp dirty knees…Ah, JOY!
For Today, if the predictions are correct, more of the same! Whoo HOO!
