Well we had a whopper of a weekend! So much left to do clearing that homestead we went back again Saturday. I did finally dig all the plants I wanted. Sadly no one person could save them all there are just too many.
One delightful find we couldn’t take was a Heritage Red Leaf Peach. It was not a grafted peach nor was it a plum, but I sure thought “plum” at first glance. It stood only a 4 feet high and was very old. With such an extensive root system I was afraid I would kill it getting it home and then I would feel terrible. So I hope someone with more wits takes the challenge. It was loaded already with thumb sized peaches and I was sorely tempted to try my luck, until I saw those, but reason beat out selfish. Not a good time when fruit is setting and a risky bet at the best of times with such a well established tree. Never did get the tree and the camera together.
I did manage to get together with some other parts of the land. Here are some shots.
Wisteria takes over the front porch.
Roof High Honeysuckle and Roses… don’t see that everyday!
The boys are still undecided about going back for some firewood they chopped and piled. Maybe after a few days rest? We’ll see.
Not sure how old the rose bush was, but surely not as old as I first thought. I found a plant stake with a sales tag at the base. Walmart Special: Don Juan, Climbing Rose $2.97. * Guffaw* It even had a picture of the roses on it. An exact match! * hoot* Its been a while since anyone gave just $2.97 for a rose bush at Wally’s but this was no heirloom! I managed to misplace the label on the way home but did get the monster dug and replanted at my house. Will need to build a fence to hold it up once it gets started. I feel a little sad. It was the most beautiful thing about that property. Roses taller than the roof. Its like the soul is gone from the little house now.
Quite by accident, I was falling over at the time, I found this little vine. I thought it was a Clematis but I could be wrong since the blooms don’t open all the way to make the signature star pattern and I think Clematis have 5 petals. I will have to check into it.
If anyone has a clue on this please pass it on. Isn’t this something a fairy should wear on its head? Adorable! Sturdy too, it bloomed the day after it was transplanted. Amazing!

Okay, just a little more about hard work, then I will be done.
Between bagging, hauling and clean up at the job site as well as digging plants up and preparing beds for them here we got wore plumb out! Knowing the plants needed to be in the ground and buckets of rain falling yesterday we ended up getting all but the honeysuckle roots in the ground today. As my mother would say…we ran between the raindrops!
That honeysuckle is tough as nails! It could live on spit and air! So it will have to wait till tomorrow, besides I am running out of safe places to put it. Over there it took over a 12 foot rose bush, a tree and part of a house. I don’t want to spend all my time hacking it down so other plants may live. Think Think Think. THINK. Think Think …Think. Okay no answers yet. Think Thinkity Think.
Gratitude List:
- For those crazy guineas who are now roaming the entire neighborhood, how they keep from falling into a neighbor dogs mouth is a mystery. Roadrunner has nothing on these speedsters!
- For stinky fart land. Its where we live now that our beagle girl, Cherry Bomb has again stolen the guinea eggs and some of the other dogs have eaten them. At least we can identify the culprits! Yeeoww! So stinky it hurts! Run for the hills!
- For finishing the JOB. What a big one it was. I hope no more invitations for that kind of work come the boys way for a while. Some nice muddy hole digging or greasy mechanical work will be welcome instead!! Tee Hee!
- For a hubby who loves roses. You big old soft spot, you!
- For first garden tomatoes, yummy!
- Jack would add to this…Thank Goodness the work week is starting, I need to get back to work so I can rest up! You can run baby, but there is always next weekend! * Hoot*
Happy Monday!
