Happy Burp-day Nathan!

My littlest Dude is 17!  Ironically he was born on Labor Day and I had zero labor, the doc’s cut a sun roof for him and yanked him out by his oversized head!  8lbs 9 ounces 23 inches with a wait for it… a 15 in diameter head!  Not so little really! HOOT!

I was looking for a big headed baby picture but found this one and its cracks me up! So its the pick!

Hold My Hand A While…

I can be such a baby! Tomorrow the Septic Guys come.  All the work on the slow drains, has come down to draining the Septic Tank and running the lines with a professional auger after to see if that works. We wanted JUST the professional auger run down the lines, but no one does that in our area anymore if you have a septic. First it must be cleaned out THEN they will run the lines.

I am cool with that, its just we don’t know exactly where the Septic Tank is. We have lived here 15 years and never had to empty it so we took the lazy way out and didn’t look for it.  Okay I looked for a it a little bit about 7 years ago. There is a county number to call and get the location of a septic tank since that is something that is supposed to be documented. Yet, this location, in 1982 somehow got missed and even though it was recorded that dynamite was used to blast a hole for a septic tank, ( not something allowed anymore)  and there was a perk test approved, the location of the big nasty poop box was not noted.

Bummer.

Digging my new garden I found tons of gravel and the clean out line leads to the same spot so the boys and I spend yesterday taking down the garden fence and transplanting whatever we thought would survive, cutting back and marking all the plants that needed to stay in place to live and spray painting a path for the dozer so no plants got the smoosh. Dragging my old self out of bed this morning I needed a double shot of chocolate syrup in my coffee to stand upright! LOL! Its been a rough week on this bod! LOL! The sore stuff will go away once I get up and around, ( and the chocolate takes hold) its those nagging “What IF” thoughts  that are messing with me now.

(I have pictures, btw, but I can’t bear to look at the carnage, so you all aren’t getting to look  either! )

What if we didn’t clear enough space in the garden and the plants we left get the smoosh?

What if the septic is somewhere else entirely? Like another Garden?

What if I have to stop the Dozer to clear another garden while the workers wait…at $100 a hour? I sure hope I picked the right spot!

Should I even try to put the Butterfly/Rose Garden back after its all over?

All the hard work putting it in, all the hard work yesterday in the 106 degree heat.  My boys are wonderful helpers and saved my life over and over with their strong backs. I doubt I could ever do this alone on such short notice especially once the plants are all matured. Is there even another location where these roses would survive?  It was a great place with  southern winter sun and the house to block the north wind and cold. Some of the tender roses that I should have never planted might not survive. Breathe In. Breathe Out.

Enough. Let’s take my mind off it, okay?

Kim B. Designs contributed to this last grab bag at DigiScrap Vault its a well stuffed string pack in delightful green. Worth the price of the bag all by itself, but you also get some great stuff from other well known designers too!! Take  A Look!

Whoopsie! Splat! & Bubble Wrap!

I meant to write, really I did! Sunday nights are usually so quiet around here, we tuck into some simple food and ride a TV wave to bed. We did that, but then the Air Conditioner started acting funny, so we turned it off and left it till morning since we were all groggy and feeling it would be better in the morning.

We opened our windows for a cricket serenade and got in TUNE with nature. We started that AC up this morning and it blew water all over the place. So the boys and I kicked Jack out the door to work and aimed ourselves on fixing the stopped up water line. Did that. Thought about writing you about that, crawling under the AC box, going to work with all the dust bunnies to keep me company. I wore my bandana over my face like a real drover. YeeHAW!  That sort of fixed the problem, but the drain was still slow. So our DIY work included using an auger on the roof vent to clear out old mudd-dauber nests in the vent. While we were up there we ushered in the new century ( a decade too late) by removing…get this…our Arial Antenna from the houses pre-cable television days!   Technically we have lived here 15 years and NEVER used it, but I don’t get up on the roof too often.

Now we have a reason for that~ *guffaw*… since after the Arial Removal Celebration I was showing the boys how to get on and off a ladder safely…the ladder slipped and I fell off the ROOF. Now Jack in never going to let me get up there again.    Stick in the Mud! LOL!

I am a little scrapped up but nothing is broken.  I am quite a handful, but God saw fit to bounce me for which I am truly grateful. Confused, but grateful!  Thanks God! Freaked out the kids, they of course know I am a teasing, testy child of God. They expected me to smash like a melon. They checked me all over like sniffy dogs, so I know I am fit and ready for action! They proclaimed to be scarred for life.

No drama at our house! *wink*

Drain line still slow, so we checked the clean out to the septic…did I forget to tell you I dropped the auger down the vent hole? Honestly, augers have a holder that doesn’t hold!! I watched the thing come undone and slither right down the hole snatching at the air as it went I didn’t even get a piece of it. All I can think to say is that if Women designed Augers the HOLDER would HOLD!! Think how ticked Jack is going to be about the whole mess!

When I got to the clean out for the septic I realized how ticked I was! I need to clean out the line it was all stopped up. I will have to retrieve that auger…dang it! I WAS going to leave it for Jack… *sly smile*

Lucky for us I found a sink vent that tapped into the main vent stack with good access and I cut away the elbow of the smaller pipe, and there it was. The auger I lost in the main stack. It could have been coiled up at the bottom, so we got a break!  I pushed it back up the vent to Dillon who was waiting on the roof! Weeeee! Nathan held the ladder for him so it didn’t slip. I bet they will be ladder holders from now until they no longer climb ladders! LOL!

We just got back from town to buy the PVC piping to restore the sink vent we trashed and we bought two additional treasures. A screened cover for the roof vent, and a Vent Clean Out. The boys are installing both on the main stack one the roof to keep the Mudd-daubers out of the vent and the other in our master bedroom near the sink vent we tore out.  So now we don’t have to go up on the roof to auger ( if we need too and we will need to less because the wasp friends will not be building their mud huts up there.)

Oh! Here they come down the stairs! All done! I love DIY its so fun sharing it with your kids!  The utility panel in the master bedroom is all back in place and ( Phew!) We are done for today! Drain still slow and no showers tonight just to make sure we don’t get backed up. We will run the auger down another pipe tomorrow this time it will be to the septic…not thrilled about pretending to be Mike Rowe and smelling sewer gases in the process, but it will beat falling off the roof, I hope! So far I feel pretty good so maybe messing with sewage is where the REAL trouble is!

HOOT!

Checked my email and what did I find? Just what I needed to see today… Have a look!

Thanks Rosie! You sure have wonderful timing! I laughed a lot at this and played it twice!

Weekend Recap

Dillon Turned 20! WHOO HOO! Happy Birthday Dude!

MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA

Age-inappropriate Cake!

Yum!

MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA

Do TRY this ice cream!

Pie Lovin’ Good!

__________________

We has such a blast the house looks like a clothes-cardboard-tool-dish bomb went off inside! We ate cake, ice cream and pizza all weekend. I managed to lose 2 lbs as strange as that sounds. First off, we went to see…

inception

and had a great time! Amazing how brainy this movie was without talking down to us peanuts. You will actually feel smarter when you walk out! HOOT! For the record I am THE anti-fan of L. Decaprio and while I can’t say this performance won me over, I think he finally left air in the room for the other members of the cast. Its a start. Over-Actors Anonymous be praised.

Anyway, back to my exploded house…

Dillon decided that for his birthday we would do a DIY project in addition to going out to eat a few times and the movie thing. Dillon wanted to replace this

MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA

with this

MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA

So we shopped Lowe’s, laughed a lot about shelving, we planned the project, and took most of the weekend to get it done because we were cutting up so much! Even though we have yet to finish, there will be 3 drawer units across the bottom and the wires with get corralled.  I don’t think task focused Jack has had a better time building in his life. Good Times!

I think we are finally getting the hang of this birthday thing, its more about being together and having a ball instead of how big the presents are or knowing exactly what the kids want. Really we had no clue what Dillon wanted, especially Dillon. It just grew from possibility and it was such fun to mess the house up this way.

Now, what to do with the Entertainment Unit in my Kitchen? LOL!

Happy Week Friends!
