We has such a blast the house looks like a clothes-cardboard-tool-dish bomb went off inside! We ate cake, ice cream and pizza all weekend. I managed to lose 2 lbs as strange as that sounds. First off, we went to see…

and had a great time! Amazing how brainy this movie was without talking down to us peanuts. You will actually feel smarter when you walk out! HOOT! For the record I am THE anti-fan of L. Decaprio and while I can’t say this performance won me over, I think he finally left air in the room for the other members of the cast. Its a start. Over-Actors Anonymous be praised. 

Anyway, back to my exploded house…

Dillon decided that for his birthday we would do a DIY project in addition to going out to eat a few times and the movie thing. Dillon wanted to replace this

So we shopped Lowe’s, laughed a lot about shelving, we planned the project, and took most of the weekend to get it done because we were cutting up so much! Even though we have yet to finish, there will be 3 drawer units across the bottom and the wires with get corralled.  I don’t think task focused Jack has had a better time building in his life. Good Times!

I think we are finally getting the hang of this birthday thing, its more about being together and having a ball instead of how big the presents are or knowing exactly what the kids want. Really we had no clue what Dillon wanted, especially Dillon. It just grew from possibility and it was such fun to mess the house up this way.

Now, what to do with the Entertainment Unit in my Kitchen? LOL!

As I told you all a while back, I set all my items to “purchase with points” at my DigiScrap Warehouse store.

I said I would do it until my anniversary!  Well yesterday Jack and I went to breakfast, went shopping for a new lawn mower, and then came home to flop in front of the TV to watch multiple episodes of NCIS…yes! We are that exciting! WHOOT!

I completely forgot it was our anniversary until 7 pm …no biggie, I do that every year. Jack usually remembers though! We laughed all the way to the chicken place where we bought a giant take out meal and brought it home to Anniversary with the kids in the dinning room!  A Good time was had by all!

Of course, I completely forgot to remind you all on Saturday the Purchase With Points Sale was going off July 11th, so I am extending it one more day.

I will turn off the sale, Tuesday Morning ( 3AM CST) when I get up to do my design stuff.

Cool?

Now I am going over to see if even my latest products are listed for points purchasing…because I forget stuff! Doy!

I price a couple of products a week at Digiscrap Warehouse’s 2 dollar Thursday and yet I have never blogged about it…what the what? I am finding my feet now with the 3 stores I love and am a part of, and honestly each store has more going on than I have yet to explore but I am getting there slower than turtles with wings!

Wrapped up our schooling today with a narration of Emily Dickinson and read a handful of her many poems. Dillon picked out this one, noting how clever Dickinson was to weave riddles into her descriptions. We have been studying poets in our Great Writers Series.

A narrow fellow in the grass
Occasionally rides;
You may have met him,–did you not,
His notice sudden is.
The grass divides as with a comb,
A spotted shaft is seen;
And then it closes at your feet
And opens further on.
He likes a boggy acre,
A floor too cool for corn.
Yet when a child, and barefoot,
I more than once, at morn,
Have passed, I thought, a whip-lash
Unbraiding in the sun,–
When, stooping to secure it,
It wrinkled, and was gone.
Several of nature’s people
I know, and they know me;
I feel for them a transport
Of cordiality;
But never met this fellow,
Attended or alone,
Without a tighter breathing,
And zero at the bone.

This poem made our nerdie hearts beat fast! LOL!

We are running between the raindrops today! Whoo Hoo! Just the kind of day we love, soft rain, sleepy dogs, quiet music playing, ( Moody Blues, Doors, Sting, Bread) one could fall asleep standing up its one zen moment after another.  Ahhh!

I planned so much food for the 4th of July celebration that we had to start it last night! Grilled Bratwurst on wheat buns, potato salad, Sliced Watermelon, Rhubarb Pie. Today Grilled Pork Steaks, Apple Pie, Sweet Potato Fries. Tomorrow,  Grilled Rootbeer Chicken with a brown sugar rub, Macaroni and Cheese , Vegetable Shiska-bobs, and Peach Cobbler. For our actual Independence Day Celebration on Monday Grilled Sirloin Steaks, Baked Potatoes, Corn on the Cob, and Strawberry Shortcake topped with vanilla bean ice cream.

I just gained 5 lbs writing this! LOL!  

I get carried away at the grocery store. I write a list but the sales are so good I just grab more stuff. Its a curse my hubby LOVES! He, of course, is going to wash this all down with a crockpot full of Velvetta/Rotel Cheese Dip and a few bags of chips. I promised to make it last night and keep it warm throughout the weekend. His goal is to eat it all ( 40 ounces/1.18 L) before going back to work Tuesday. I don’t know how he stays so thin??  I unplug it every night and put it in the refrigerator so he doesn’t die. *wink* Long-term I can make no promises, the man has never met a vegetable he likes…unless you count deep fried okra. I don’t! HOOT!~

While we Cates are eating our way through another holiday, I have a little freebie for you, Americans to enjoy. There can never be enough flags or red, white and blue bunting, I guess. Our little town is all covered in it, since its one of those historic towns that ties itself in a bow each holiday! Independence Day is a big deal, Revolutionary War Re-enactments and all that Jazz! Actually lots of Jazz bands too! LOL!

This is what I made, digging out some old pictures of my Dad. The note with these pictures in my father’s handwriting…

Taken at Anna Shong’s circa 1937 ( lived across the street) Boyd, Wisconsin. Lived at this house until I was 4. Anna Shong was a kindly woman, much misunderstood. She taught me how to cook “boiled dinner” after my mother died.  Always had a Beautiful Garden.
